Many women will wear a hat to go along with their outfit. Rather they want to look like a diva or they want to blend in, women will wear several different types of hats that not only look good but are functional too.

In the summer time, woman will wear a hat when working outside in the gardens. A nice straw hat is good for outside. Usually they will have a wide brim so that the entire face is protected from the sun and harmful UV or ultraviolet rays. These types of hats are not fancy but are just for function.

If a woman doesn't wear a straw hat, they will at least wear a baseball cap. It does sound a bit masculine to wear a baseball or truck cap, but it is all about the function of the hat. If it keeps the sun out of a woman's eyes and doesn't allow the sun to scorch her face, no woman ever cares what their hat looks like in the garden. They are only going to get it dirty, so it's not going to fancy, just functional.

Therefore, for special occasions, there are woman out there that still wear hats. Although we are leaving in a time where woman just are interested in hats or bonnets, there are still a lot that is produced every year.

In practically in women's clothing magazine, the have a hat collection. When it comes to dressing up, hats have to be big, bold, and beautiful. They have to give the whole outfit a certain something that will for sure make someone notice them. When it comes to special occasions like a wedding most people will go with a brightly colored outfit like red and match it with a neutral color like white. It's simple and elegant and perfect for the event.

When it comes to the summer, a hat that is appropriate for the weather is needed. If it is a bright sunny day and you are spending it on a boat, a nice big hat is due so that the face can be protected all day long. In addition, many women have begun to take an interest in fishing.

A nice dainty beige hate will do so that it's not in the way of your fishing and it still gives your face some protection from harmful UV rays. Many women will wear a simple canvas hat that matches their outfit in the summer. The purpose of this is to add something to the outfit and yet keep things casual and fun.

For the wintertime, many women refuse to wear a snowcap. Why? Lets face it, it does nothing for the hair! Most women will not wear a snowcap, but will wear a beret or some other type of hat that doesn't put that much pressure on the hair and ruin the hairstyle for the day. Some women will also not wear a hat, but take a scarf and tie it around their head (covering the ears).

Customer Review: Meg Wolitzer really "gets it"

It's been a while since I've reviewed anything on Amazon but I just wanted to say how much I loved this book. I devoured it in a weekend and found myself stopping my husband in whatever he was doing to read him random bits and snippets, mostly because Meg Wolitzer so perfectly summed up so many of the sentiments I myself had felt during the years I stayed home with my kids.



For example, there's a passage near the beginning where one of the characters talks about picking up a newspaper like the New YOrk Times and reading yet another profile of a high-powered women who "does it all." And Meg Wolitzer writes (I'm paraphrasing) that 'she wished there was something like an asterisk at the end of the article which referred you to a box at the bottom of the page which explained the backstory, what the real deal was.' And that's EXACTLY how I felt the whole time I was trying to juggle life in the foreign service with raising little kids and being pregnant. Everytime I caught a glimmer of someone who somehow or other effortlessly did it all, you'd start to talk to them and they'd say something like "Well, actually it was easy. You see, my mother had recently retired and she was widowed so she moved to Botswana for eight years and watched my kids for me while I climbed up through the ranks to become Ambassador" or "Well, actually they're my stepchildren. My husband is actually forty years older than I am, so by the time I became a "mom", the kids had already graduated from college" or something.



There are just these little MOMENTS throughout the book where I found myself exclaiming "yes, yes. she really understands. I'm not alone. I'm not crazy." Another example -- she describes the insecure mom picking up the child at school and the child is in first grade and the mom finds herself checking out all the books the other kids are reading, trying to figure out if her child is where she should be in her reading. It's like we all do these things but never admit them, and then Meg Wolitzer comes along and writes this book -- and you realize it's not just you.



I really hope this book gets people talking -- especially the dialogue between the main character and her earnest Canadian feminist mother who can't understand how the women's movement could have ended up at this point. This is just a great book!

Making Eye Contact With Hot Women

For a while now I've been wondering why some women always make eye contact and hold it longer than others, and in most cases, the women who fail to maintain eye contact are the best looking.

Each woman is unique, so their reasons for not maintaining eye contact could be any of a variety of things. However, after a lot of thought and research I've found out why these "dimes" or perfect 10's tend to make eye contact much less than other women.

Read on and be enlightened.

Like I said before... they do this for a variety of reasons, but a few shine through the rest. The majority of these babes will fail to maintain eye contact because: they are insecure, they are stuck up, or they lack social interaction. Let go into these three in detail...

You may be thinking to yourself "How the hell could a woman that looks that good be insecure?", and it's quite simple. You would be surprised how many really hot women are insecure, and they are because of the same reason you would think that they would not be... they know that they look good.

This puts a great deal of pressure on them, and very small flaws in their appearance that would barely bother an average person (pimples, bad hair days, broken nails, etc.) make them feel like it's the end of the world. This type of mentality constantly attacks their self confidence, which in turn makes them afraid to maintain eye contact in order to not draw any attention to these "flaws".

Now lets high-tail it over to the complete opposite of the drawing board and take a look at the infamous ice queens.

These women who are "stuck up" are that way for the same reason that the others are insecure... they know that they look good. The reason why they tend to go to one extreme or the other... remains a mystery. I'm not exactly sure why some turn out to be stuck up while other do not... let's just blame that on genetics :) However, I do know that these snobby women stay that way because of their daily dose of confidence "boosters", which come in the form of men staring at them or compliments that they receive on their looks.

The good news is that these women almost always drop the "ice queen" act if you get up the balls to approach them, as they will be very surprised that you did so, and that brings us to our last category of women because ALL of these women fit that bill also...

Almost all of these "stuck up" women lack social interaction, because they scare off most of the men who would approach them if they didn't think that they would be rejected. I'm not talking about social interaction in general, like simply talking to people, I'm saying that they are rarely "hit on" in the PROPER manner.

99% of the time that these women are hit on is by the only type of men that have the balls to do so, which are known as the "male pigs". These men will hang out the window of their car and shout something like "Woooohoooo, shake that ass baby!" or "Damn, your fine!". I don't fully understand why they do this... maybe they think that they are being cool? That's another unsolved mystery, let's just blame that on genetics also :)

These women only get hit on in a manner such as that, which makes them believe that *almost* all men are like that, and the truth is... they are right. That is the same reason why us players are some of the only guys who have the ability to date women like these, and on that note I would like to thank all of the "male pigs" out there for making my job so much easier :)

When you approach these women using the proper methods described in my book, they will be very happy that you did so because this rarely happens to them, and once you learn to play your cards right you will be able to pick them up with ease.

I'm not saying that you will be able to pick up every hot woman that you approach, there are still some that think that they are too good for anyone who isn't a model with over 10 million in the bank... those women can have fun trying to find a man like that, I wish them good luck in their search. Just remember that things only happen when you make them happen, so suck it up and initiate the conversation, or it'll never take place.

Take my advice and soon you'll be picking up and dropping more dimes than the sprint lady!

Here the beautiful-voiced Deborah Voigt tackles music her sound is made for: big, powerful moments from works of Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. All 10 selections are handsomely sung, with gleaming, even tone, and some are true standouts. Elisabeth's Greeting from Tannhaeuser is sort of matter-of-fact, but both of Sieglinde's solos from Walküre are filled with urgency and depth and seem to be happening in real time. Ariadne's monolog is suitably ethereal and fantastic (in the true sense of the word) and the "chunks" from Die Frau ohne Schatten and Chrysothemis's monolog from Elektra, though weird out of context, are vocal showpieces. Her Isolde is nuanced and potent, if without the ultimate rage in the Narrative and Curse or the heavenly transfiguration of the Liebestod, and the final scene of Salome, ravishingly sung, does not quite probe this character's berserk Freudian issues. But she's a remarkable singer and this CD is sure to delight; one can bathe in her warm, rich sound. --Robert Levine

Customer Review: The Opera ain't over......

This review is kind of dated; since this album was released, the fat lady had lost a bunch of weight. Miss Voigt got some unfortunate publicity a couple of years ago when Covent Garden paid off her contract, and fired her due to her excess poundage. I don't question their right to do that, but I do question the sanity of anyone who fires the greatest Wagnerian of our day. That event triggered her big weight loss, and she's back at Covent Garden. What do audiences want? Every High School has plenty of girls who look great in skimpy costumes, but, can they sing this music? Please...great Wagner singers are MUCH rarer than great heart surgeons. Flagstad wasn't anything to look at, and Schumann-Heink was massive, BUT, they could do justice to Wagner. Helen Traubel? There are exceptions to everything.



This is a truly wonderful album...Wagner and Strauss did not write for weaklings. Miss Voigt makes Sieglinde and Isolde come alive; her voice is both massive and beautiful. What we have here is 68 minutes of the finest singing of really tough music available in our day. The "Tristan und Isolde" excerpts are alone worth the price, but the whole recording is a joy.

Customer Review: A Wonderful Wagner and Strauss Recital

When I first heard this CD, I didn't think much of Deborah Voigt since I had heard her during her earlier days singing Mathilde in Rossini's Gugliemo Tell with the conductor Evelino Pido. Her timbre at that time was so creamy and rich and beautiful, and as I heard her over the years, I noticed that the qualities that made her such a promising singer in that Tell were not present in this recording. I also heard her do some Verdi roles in the Met, parts that were obviously not suited to her cooler, Germanic sound. A few days ago, after listening to a broadcast of her spectacular Salome from Chicago last fall and her recent Agyptische Helena from the Met, I have to say that I have never been more amazed by this soprano.



Of course, Voigt is no Nilsson, but who else was? I don't think Inge Borkh, Gwyneth Jones, Ursula Schröder-Feinen, Leonie Rysanek, or Hildegard Behrens ever equalled the great Swede in terms of power and focus, and neither will Voigt. But what Voigt has that Nilsson does not is a warmth and a grain to her voice, making Voigt's portrayals of her heroines sound more human than godlike compared to the stentorian Brünnhilde. Voigt's Sieglinde, Ariadne, Elisabeth, Isolde, Salome, Kaiserin, and Chrysothemis are all magnificent characterizations with a human, womanly touch to them. This recital allows the listener to hear showpieces that reflect her talent as a German dramatic soprano, and the listener is immediately drawn by the care to which Voigt lavishes on these selections. Dich Teure Halle is sung with the bright, happy, pure sound one associates with Elisabeth, and if it not a personalized portrayal of the heroine, it certainly is a perfectly sung one. Of the two selections from Die Walküre, Der Männer Sippe is sung with urgent drive, showing us once again that Deborah is the best Sieglinde of our day. She sings Du Bist der Lenz with rapture and beauty, and one would have hoped that she could have partnered Ben Heppner or Domingo to finish the remainder of Act I in this CD. The selections from Tristan are sung with vocal opulence that reminds us how Voigt is quickly becoming one of the best Isoldes today. The Narration from Act I is sung like a powerhouse of rage and sarcasm, and the Liebestod is perfectly sung, albeit lacking that sense of apotheosis that characterized Nilsson and Flagstad in their singing of the part. Although these excerpts were Voigt's starting forays into Isolde, she already shows security and intelligence in this cornerstone of the dramatic soprano repertoire.



The next half of the recital shows Voigt's talents in the Straussian roles where her voice is put to its best use. Unlike the Wagner selections, these Straussian excerpts don't seem to lend as well to cutting, but they nonetheless give the listener an idea of Voigt's mastery of the Straussian idiom. Her large, creamy, grainy voice is ideal for Chrysothemis, and I have never heard Ariadne sung better in these recent years. Voigt is easily the equal of Rysanek as the empress, the steely sheen of her voice perfect for the luminscent character of the Kaiserin. She closes the recital with the final scene from Salome, a selection that shows Voigt's exploration of another dramatic role that she assumed to great acclaim last fall in Chicago. All in all, a great recital, and one would only hope that she had been partnered by a more sensitive conductor like Christian Thielemann.

Why Women Should Train Different Than Men

It's no big secret that a women's idea of what the perfect body is for her is vastly different from what a man's idea of what the perfect body for him is. Men and women store fat differently, and because women are predisposed to naturally maintain higher body fat levels than men, most women have a harder time trying to keep extra fat off.

Most women also do not go to the gym to workout with the notion of wanting to get big muscles like a lot of men do nor do they have the desire to look like any of the men in the gym. So then, why would most women want to do the same kind of workouts as most men do?

The fact is, a lot of women go to the gym only to end up doing the same kind of exercises and routines as the men do because that's the way they've been taught to do it by their boyfriends and husbands. The problem usually is, the men are lifting heavier weights and doing fewer repetitions in order to increase muscle mass.

Now while women do not have near the testosterone levels as men, meaning they do not have the same muscle growth potential, they can still see some major increases in their muscle size if they always train that way. Everyone, man or woman, will respond to lifting heavy with low repetitions with muscle growth. That is your muscles trying to adapt to the heavy loads placed upon them. They need to get stronger for the next time, and a bigger muscle is a stronger muscle.

When a woman weight trains to get firm and toned but does not want to body build, there are some things she can do that will get her the results she wants without the extra mass. Remember, it is not the particular exercises men do that create mass, but the way they do them. If you do all the same exercises only you use somewhat lighter weight, and instead of the 8-10 repetitions most men do, you do 15-20 reps, you will tone up with no bulky side effects.

There are circuit training programs that utilize aerobics and resistance training all in one, and these programs are perfect for women. These programs are designed to give you a fat burning workout while at the same time giving you a muscle toning workout without adding extra muscle size.

You should be doing these routines 4-6 days per week because unlike muscle building routines, you do not need as much recovery time. Once you get to where you want to be, doing these routines 2-3 times per week is usually plenty to maintain your results.

The bottom line is, if you want to lose fat, increase muscle tone without adding size, and you want to flatten your tummy and lift your rear, than don't train like a man, train like a woman.

I am a big fan of the luna series of meal bars by Clif. They taste good, if you can overlook a faint vitamin aftertaste/smell, are reaonably nutritious and filling if you have a drink with them. My kids like s'mores best, but I love the chai and chocolate peppermint. I ate these while on WW and thought they were worth every point! They retail for 2 dollars each near me, so this is a FANTASTIC PRICE!!!

This is something I have been looking for a long time. It's very tasty and really good for you. Now, I understand some comments here describing it as a little medicine/protein like. I believe those comments are by people who have never actually tried protein/nutrition candy. Luna bar far exceeds in taste quality any other bar on the market I have tried (and there had been many). I found that this unwanted flavor is absent in Caramel Nut Brownie, Raspberry Chocolate, and S'mores.



One comment: the nutrition facts are not precise. This is not a 48g bar, it is actually 52g (I weighed many bars, that is the average). This means, that Caramel Nut Brownie has not 190 kcal, but approximately 205 kcal.

It is very difficult to follow with a strange ending. I had trouble even understanding who did what. There is so much depressing anxiety over cancer, brain tumors,drinking, etc . I have read all her books & " was " a fan - what nonsense!! I wish I could say better. She could write multiple books - just to explain this one - most events & characters are left hanging. Do Men Respect Women?

Dear Dennis:

I wonder about this from time to time, but I figure that I need an answer from an insightful man in order to get a truthful answer on this:

Do men respect women in general? Do men pity women in general, because of our vulnerabilities? Or do men have a certain "hard-to-explain" admiration for women at times and pity other times? What can a woman do to get and earn men's respect in most cases? A lot of men speak in a condescending way towards and about women. Can a woman have a lot of sex and still get a lot of respect? Can a woman talk about having a lot of sex and still get respect? Why do many women seem to never grow out of that adolescent unsure-of-themselves phase, while men tend to realize their strengths and utilize them to their benefit?

Okay, it's a lot of questions - but they all really center around one general principle of respect. It seems to me that many women can't seem to get a grip on the power that they possess, and forever see themselves as being in a position whereby they have to compete and prove their worth - rather than being in a position where they already understand their worth and are just looking for a man who meets "their" standards. I see that women constantly compromise, when they don't need to - turn themselves into whores and fake bi-sexuals sometimes - just to compete with ambitious attention whores.

What are your thoughts?

Hello!

Yes, that IS a lot of questions! However, there is one simple answer to them all: yes and no.

Some men respect all women and some don't respect any women at all. Many women ("feminists" in particular) demand that all women (as a group) are given respect whereas many male chauvinists follow the policy of giving no woman respect whatsoever. In fact, in every case these are all stupid and ignorant philosophies!

I've done many interviews wherein the interviewer (most often a feminist herself) accused me of not "respecting women"; usually because they read some small part of my book or an article that they don't like. My response is this: "You're right!" In fact, I don't respect "women". I also don't respect politicians or dog trainers or Christian fundamentalists or boy scouts or school teachers or those in the military or computer programmers or any other particular group of people. I only respect individuals; and then, only based on what they say and do. Indeed, there are many women that I have absolutely no respect for, and some of these have even earned my disdain. On the other hand, there are many women that have earned my highest respect.

I would never presume to speak for every man out there, but according to my own research, and the huge number of letters I get everyday from readers, I believe that in general, most men feel very good about women. Is this "respect"? I can't say specifically, but I think there has to be at least some respect involved in order to have these kinds of positive feelings. If men are guilty of any respect-based crimes, I think it's giving away too much respect too soon, but in fact, this isn't a huge, rampant problem and most men learn to deal with this early on.

On the other hand, men view women very *differently* than themselves. That difference in view doesn't mean that they don't respect women (or that they do either!), it's just "different". For example, I'm sure that you know many women that also view men differently than themselves. There's a reason why most women prefer a man that's taller - it's because they view these men as able to protect and even nurture them. This is a natural, inborn need for these women in order to feel love. On the other hand, they don't feel the same way about women that are taller than themselves however.

Is that "respect"? Not really. It's just a different way of feeling about the opposite gender. Respect may be involved, but it's not the foundation of how they feel.

In my books, "Being a Man in a Woman's World I & II" I talk pretty heavily about these gender differences and specifically how they affect our relationships with each other. I want both men and women to learn to play into these differences for their own advantages. What you call "power" I simply call natural advantage, and I believe that each of us possesses different sets of these advantages in different measure. That's a good thing - especially when we learn to use them to improve our lives and even the lives of others around us.

It's because of these differences however that I can't specifically answer your questions! For instance, "Can a woman that has lots of sex still be respected?" That's impossible to answer generally. For me, yes, she can earn my respect since the amount of sex she has had has no bearing on how I respect her. In fact, I think that someone that is highly sexually mature can be very respectable! What's more important to our very beings than our sexuality? I don't know of any particular attribute that is more foundational than our sexuality. Thus, someone that has worked hard to build theirs in a healthy way is someone that is likely to earn my respect. Likewise, someone that has avoided building and understanding their own sexuality is someone that is likely to NOT get my respect!

Other men however see this either as a threat or view it negatively for some other belief. They might very well not give respect for this. Is that "wrong"? To me it is, but that's just one opinion. They feel it's perfectly right to believe as they do.

What I advise people is to create their own yardsticks based on their own beliefs, desires, experiences and philosophies and to be clear about them. There's nothing wrong with adopting a particular belief system that someone else creates as long as they know WHY they believe as they do. Simply adopting something to fill in a gap isn't a respectable action. Knowing why someone believes in something and how it affects that individual - and adopting it because it fits well their own belief system - is.

Then, when situations come along, they can simply apply that against their own yardsticks and see how they fit. If they fit well, then this person might (based on many other factors) be worthy of their respect. If not, they may choose to no respect that individual.

In general I have received several compliments on the set (I chose the brown with hot pink trim)and I am happy with the purchase. The price was extremely reasonable and I will order more sets soon.

On the fit side the top is oversized and I will have to do some altering to it as the neck line droops to far down for modesty. The pants fit well and I am overall satisfied with my choice. If I was built like a certain female country music star maybe the top would fit better but alas that is not me!

The material is heavier and stiffer than others I have purchased but that just means that the set will last longer and from past experience the material will soften after a few washes.

What do you like about yourself? Are you proud of yourself? If these questions make you feel uncomfortable, or you cannot answer them, chances are that you have a problem with self esteem. Why is that? Why do so many of us basically dislike ourselves? Why are we embarrassed to "esteem" ourselves?

Before answering this question, we must first define self-esteem. Self esteem comes from the inside out. It means that a woman is not dependent upon anyone else to make her feel good about herself, because she already knows she's fine just the way she is. She is confident and aware of her strengths and abilities. She wants to share them with others. This does not mean she os conceited. She is also aware of areas needing work and growth. But that's ok, because she knows she's not perfect, and she doesn't have to be. No one is. She understands that we all have our strengths and weaknesses.
Self-esteem is a core identity issue, essential to personal validation and our ability to experience joy. Once achieved, it comes from the inside out. But it is assaulted or stunted from the outside in. A woman with low self-esteem does not feel good about herself because she has absorbed negative messages about women from the culture and/or relationships.
The reign of youth, beauty and thinness in our society dooms every woman to eventual failure. Women's magazines, starting with the teenage market, program them to focus all their efforts on their appearance. Many girls learn, by age 12, to drop formerly enjoyable activities in favor of the beauty treadmill leading to nowhere. They become fanatical about diets. They munch, like rabbits, on leaves without salad dressing, jog in ice storms, and swear they love it! Ads abound for cosmetic surgery, enticing us to "repair" our aging bodies, as if the natural process of aging were an accident or a disease. Yet with all this effort, they still never feel like they are good enough.
How can they? Magazine models are airbrushed to perfection, and anorexic. "Beautiful" movie stars are whipped into perfect shape by personal trainers, and use surgery to create an unnatural cultural ideal. But youth cannot last. It is not meant to. If women buy into this image of beauty, then the best an older woman can strive for is looking "good for her age" or worse yet, "well preserved". Mummies are well preserved. Mummies are also dead.
Abusive experiences join with cultural messages to assault female self esteem. Abuse is pervasive and cuts across all socioeconomic lines. It invariably sends the message that the victim is worthless. Many, many women have told me that verbal abuse has hurt them far more than any physical act. As one woman put it, "his words scarred my soul". Women whose abuse started as children have the most fragile sense of identity and self worth.
Poor self esteem often results in depression and anxiety. Physical health suffers as well. Many times, women with this problem don't go for regular checkups, exercise, or take personal days because they really don't think they're worth the time.
Relationships are impacted as well. Their needs are not met by their partner because they feel like they don't deserve to have them met, or are uncomfortable asking. Their relationships with children can suffer if they are unable to discipline effectively, set limits, or demand the respect they deserve. Worse yet, low self-esteem passes from mother to daughter.The mother is modeling what a woman is. She is also modeling, for her sons, what a wife is.
In the workplace, women with low self-esteem tend to be self-deprecating, to minimize their accomplishments, or let others take credit for their work. They never move up. Finally, with friends, they are unable to say no. They end up doing favors they don't want to do, or have any time for. They end up going where they don't want to go, with people they don't want to go with!
A woman with low self-esteem has no control over her life.
But that can change. These women can get help and emotional healing. It is criticial to remember that no one deserves to be abused. If something bad has happened to you, it does not mean there is something wrong with you. The responsibility for the abuse lies with the person who chooses to hurt you. If you are presently being abused, you must put yours and your children's safefy first.

You can choose your own identity. You can discard the popular cultural image and replace it with something real. As I read someplace once, "We are bound by our fate only as long as we accept the values that determine it."
Nobody is perfect, but everyone is worthwile. Believe in yourself.
